The Riverside Hotel was built in 1889 to house the travellers and workmen on the new C&O Railroad line that went through Friendsville. In the 1940's the rail line ended and the hotel closed as well.

It reopened in 2003 after the previous owners repurchased and renovated the building. In July 2016 Kyle Burton and Cara Heasley bought the property and continue to maintain it. They have a restaurant onsite as well.
