This large, old cemetery is near the southwest edge of the city.

This old cemetery is active and may soon run out of space. Private property to the west of the cemetery may have to be purchased.

Even though the burial registers for Granada date from 1830, it is more likely that this cemetery was established after the devastating fire of 1856 when the city of Granada was rebuilding.

The large cemetery has a number of interesting features. La Capilla de La Moralona is a beautiful chapel within the cemetery grounds. Between the 1850s and the 1960s, nine presidents and former presidents of Nicaragua have been buried in this cemetery. There is a Jewish section.
