Tulsa is home to several outstanding community theater ensembles, and this is one of the most hard-working and entertaining. "The Drunkard and The Olio" is a classic melodrama, based on the beer garden entertainments of the mid-1800s. Audiences are invited to boo and hiss at the villian and to applaud and cheer whenever the hero walks on stage. It's a lot of fun, whether you are by yourself, on a date, or with a large group.
Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, and $5 for children (group rates are available), and you should call ahead for
reservations. Bring some cash for refreshments, too; it all goes to support the non-profit
Tulsa Spotlighters, Inc. Of course, if you order a beer, you should be prepared for some good-natured heckling from the actors; it
is a play about a drunkard, after all.
Children are welcome. In fact, members of a Girl Scout troop were working among the
volunteer theater staff the evening we attended.
In addition to "The Drunkard and The Olio", the Tulsa Spotlighters, Inc. present many
Children's Theatre events. Look for Friday evening performances, and Saturday and Sunday matinees at various times through the year.
