Pvt. William H. Ethridge

William H. Ethridge was a Private First Class in the Army during World War II. William resided in Oklahoma before enlisting on April 3, 1941. At the time of enlistment, William was 26 years old, had a grammar school education and was single, without dependents. One year later, William was captured by Imperial Japan while serving in the Philippine Islands, and was sent to PW Camp #2 near Davao, Mindanao, Philippines where 540 other American POWs were held. William's capture was first reported to the International Committee of the Red Cross on May 7, 1942, and the last report was made on September 7, 1944. Based on these two reports, William was imprisoned for at least 854 days (2 years and ~5 months). The average duration of imprisonment was 363 days. William died in the sinking of the Shinyo Maru on September 7, 1944." ~ : Mooseroots
