This trail is rated easy by the National park Service. It leads from the top of a tuff (volcanic ash) canyon to the floor and back, a distance of about 3/4 of a mile.
Parking is at the trailhead.
The interpretive sign at the trailhead reads as follows:
"TUFF CANYON
Tuff Canyon is much deeper than other dry washes at Big Bend. To discover why, see the exhibit at the right hand overlook. Hike between sheer walls to the bottom of the canyon for a close look at the geologic layers. The trail is an easy ¾-mile trip to the desert floor."
