A volcanic outcrop of rock that has weathered to look like a fierce lion baring his teeth and peering over the desert at Big Bend National Park -- the illusion is helped by the natural arch formed in the lion's jaw area

The waymark coordinates are for the viewing spot along Ross Maxwell Drive. The feature itself is located some distance off the road.

Lion Rock is located along the Ross Maxwell scenic drive in Big Bend National Park. It is a rugged area north of Cerro Castellan in an area of tuff deposits and volcanic outcroppings.
Photo of the Arch by itself?: yes

Type of Arch: Wind Eroded

Type of Material:
The arch appears to be made of volcanic deposit, perhaps ash (tuff) or extruded magma that has cooled and fractured over the eons
