A fading plastic sign attached reads:
W.J. Hefner-Floyd Appling Home (circa 1909)
Located on Monseratte Street off of Washington Street.
This mural depicts a home built in 1909 on Heights Street which continues
to be a showplace in El Campo today. The grandfather, grandmother, &
great-aunt of Floyd E. Appling, Jr., are pictured in the mural.
The little girl was his mother Marie Hefner Appling. Little dog,
Bentley was added to the Merrill after he died. This truly is a family portrait
spanning 90 years with the most descendants still living in El Campo.
The building to the right in the mural was built in 1910 by W.J. Hefner.
It is the same building the mural is painted on.
