This house was built as a city hall for Lesser Town. The City Hall functioned as the headquarters for 11 Concilers and the Mayor, plus provided space for the imperial magistrate and clerk to administrate and to judge civil and criminal cases, to make decisions about oprhan placement and other things. Later in 1575 the building entered history books when the so called Czech Confession, a document written by Czech non-Catholic opposition as a basis for the talks in which they required religious freedom, was written in it. After centuries as a city hall, a fiscal office, a tax archive and a political prison, the building then in 1868 became an important cultural center and offered a wide range of cultural activities. Apart from its role as a cultural center in the city of Prague Malostranska Beseda was also considered a architectural jewel. As it was and is still located on the old Royal route and the new tourist route that leads from the Gothic Powder Tower to the magnificent Charles Bridge and then to Lesser Town Square.

Malostranská radnice ztratila svou funkci stejne tak jako staromestská, novomestská a hradcanská 12. února 1784. Toho dne byl vydán dvorský dekret o spojení ctyr pražských mest v jedno mesto s jedním magistrátem. V tu dobu to byl ovšem již tretí malostranský radnicní dum.
Ústredním prostorem radnice byla radní sín. Ve ctyrech lavicích tady sedávalo 11 radních, pred nimi purkmistr se zlatým retezem na krku, vedle neho z jedné strany císarský rychtár a v blízkosti písar s alespon cástecným právnickým vzdeláním. Zde se rozhodovalo o vecech ohledne správy mesta, kauzách trestních i civilních a záležitostech sirotcích. Kolik lidských osudu tady bylo nasmerováno tím ci oním smerem? Mimo radní sín byly v prostorném objektu ješte menší síne, cekárna pro strany, bydlelo zde 16 nájemníku, na dvore byl obecní pivovar a stáj pro kone. V radnicním podloubí byly kotce prodavacu chleba a krámek obecní solnice. Své obytné pokoje tady meli též povozníci, nakladaci dríví a sudu, cili zástupci profesí potrebných pro chod pivovaru. Když byl pivovar zrušen, prestehovali se do techto prostor rezníci ze zborených masných krámu na námestí a stejne tak, když byla zrušena z komunikacních duvodu na námestí vojenská strážnice, byla stráž umístena v dolejších místnostech radnice.
Dnes v objektu pusobí Malostranská beseda se širokou škálou kulturních aktivit hudebních, divadelních, výstavních, prednáškových a spolecenských. V druhém patre má výstavní prostory a samostatnou kancelár Sdružení prátel Male Strany a Hradcan.
