The couillard is a counterweight machine. Its performances allowed it to compete with the powder artillery for a long time thanks to its high rate of fire and his very reduced team (4 to 8 servants).
The Château des Baux-de-Provence is the only site in the South of France with working siege engines. These faithful re-enactments of real-size machines draw real projectiles and allow us to relive the atmosphere of a siege in the Middle Ages.
