Culminating at 186 m they are among the highest heaps in Europe. Erected with the stony waste of the extraction, the heaps are privileged points of view. They are also highly symbolic elements of the landscape identity of the Nord-Pas de Calais mining basin.

Pit No. 11 - 19 of the Compagnie des Mines de Lens was a coal mine in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais mining basin consisting of two wells located at Loos-en-Gohelle, Pas-de-Calais, Nord-Pas de -Calais, France. Aeration pit 11 bis is located on another tile. The surface installations of pit 11 - 19 are classified as historic monuments on 21 December 2009, replacing the inscription of 6 May 1992. The pit is also inscribed on the World Heritage List by UNESCO on 30 June 2012 And is part of Site 63.
