The first Mills County courthouse was built in 1889 and served this community until 1912, when it burned in a fire.
A new courthouse was built on the same site in 1913, and still serves this community over hundred years later.
The orphan cornerstone for the 1889 courthouse has been rescued and preserved in a monument that stands on the northwest side of the county courthouse grounds.
