Brown Cemetery - Nowata, OK USA - Worldwide Cemeteries on Waymarking.com

Many, many of the graves in the cemetery are missing dates. FindAGrave (link below) records 135 graves with names, but my wife and I walked this cemetery and found many graves with UNKNOWN as the only inscription. However, since it barely looks like there are anywhere near 135 graves visible at all, it's possible that the FindAGrave entries were entered from some other source, such as a cemetery listing book or whatever.

For example, there is supposed to be a centenarian, Mary Hughes, here. There are a couple of Hughes family members with their names on grave markers, but no Mary. Thus, Mary is probably one of the many markers with UNKNOWN on it, in spite of her name and information being recorded elsewhere (until the advent of FindAGrave).

The last recorded grave was from 1982. Most of the graves are plain horizontal markers flush to the ground and covered with grass. We had to scrape grass away from many markers (in 29°F temperatures) to find what we did see. And, as mentioned above, many of these simply stated UNKNOWN, inscribed by hand.
