Historic Map of Port Macquarie
Gaol Point
This point is adjacent to the north of the gaol. It is a built out area overlooking the entrance to the river and was originally guarded by two cannons & two four pounders.
Mr Benjamin Boyd's yacht, "Wanderer", was wrecked off this point, trying to cross the bar to enter the harbour in 1851 - Some relics from this wreck may be seen at the Museum.
This map of Old Port Macquarie and its shelter were erected by Port Macquarie Lions Club in the Sesqui Centenary Year 1968

I do remember a shelter being over this map and stand, and the cannon just in front, when I lived in Port Macquarie in 1996, but no knowledge as to when it was removed.
