Sir James Matthew Barrie, 1st Baronet OM, is buried in the cemetery on Kirriemuir Hill along with other family members, only a few hundred yards up the hill from his birthplace on Brechin Road. The creator of Peter Pan was born on May 9th 1860 and went on to become a famous novelist and playwright. The grave is clearly signposted within the cemetery.
Description: J. M. Barrie was a novelist and playwright, most famous for the creation of Peter Pan although he produced many other novels and plays. He was the ninth of ten children, the son of a Kirriemuir weaver. After studying at Edinburgh University he moved to London where he produced most of his work. He died of pneumonia in 1937.
