Located at the center of Woodlawn Cemetery in Sparta, Wisconsin, this small mausoleum contains at least five individuals. The historical name for Woodlawn Cemetery was the D.W. Cheney Cemetery. This mausoleum is made of stone with a complete marble interior. There are names on five of the six wall slabs. There is a single wood door and a single barred window. The location for this historical building is at the central roundabout in the cemetery. The name D.W. Cheney is found at the archway above the door.
History:
D.W. Cheney was the Vice President of the Jefferson Tobacco Leaf Company in Sparta, WI. Records of his birth and death are not known, only that this mausoleum holds his name and final resting place. The cemetery at one time took on Mr. Cheney's name before it became Woodlawn.
Visiting Hours/Restrictions:
Visit during daylight hours only. The mausoleum itself is key entry and locked. You can get a good view through the window.
