As the plaque reads:
Moose Mountain Winter Post
For over a decade in the mid-19th century and outpost of Fort Ellice was operated by the Hudson's Bay Company on the norther edge of Moose Mountain. It housed small wintering parties who traded for furs and provisions with the Indians. It served also as a storage depot and temporary shelter for travellers on the Fort Ellice - Moose Mountain Trail.
