Knight Hospital Monument is a 25' high granite monument that honors the Union Soldiers who died at the Knight Hospital during the Civil War. At the top of the monument is the granite figure of a Union soldier. He has a full beard and mustache and is wearing a cap, a long overcoat and cape. He is holding a musket vertically by his left side with his left hand above his right hand on the barrel. His right leg bent slightly at the knee and his right foot is in front of his left foot. On the east side of the obelisk is a trophy depicting flags, cannons, ramrods, and the seals of Connecticut and the United States.
The monument was sculpted by Charles Conrads, the architect was George Keller, and James G. Batterson supplied the granite and did the fabrication. It was dedicated in 1870.
On the east dado is the dedication:

BY THE STATE OF CONNECTICUT,
TO COMMEMORATE THE SERVICES AND
PERPETUATE THE MEMORY OF THE
TWO HUNDRED AND FOUR UNION SOLDIERS
WHO DIED IN KNIGHT HOSPITAL,
IN NEW HAVEN,
IN THE YEARS 1862, 3, 4, & 5
AND WERE BURIED IN THESE GROUNDS
An upper band and a lower band encircle the shaft. Each has the names of four Civil War battled.
The upper band is inscribed:
GETTYSBURG - ANTIETAM - VICKSBURG - NEWBERNE
The lower band is inscribed:
FORT FISHER - CHICKAMAUGA - MALVERN HILL - FREDERICKSBURG
