Pinnacle Rock is a large sandstone formation that stands on U. S. Route 52 in Mercer County, West Virginia. The rock formation is the center piece of Pinnacle Rock State Park, which features hiking trails, picnic shelters, and fishing in Jimmy Lewis Lake. This historical marker stands on Route 52, adjacent to the park entrance. The marker was place by the West Virginia Archives & History in 2008. The text of the marker reads:
PINNACLE ROCK
Erosion-Nature’s cutting tool has chiseled away the stone on this spur of Flat Top Mountain, leaving this giant cockscomb more than 2700 feet above sea level. Several counties may be seen from these cliffs.
