At NEMO Science Museum, everyone from young to old, can discovering how fascinating science and technology are. On five floors of exhibits, experienced experiments, demonstrations and workshops, visitors learn how special everyday things are.
NEMO visitors learn about the basic principles of science and technology. About phenomena such as electricity, light, sound and gravity. They learn by doing, making, watching along with, feel and listen. The public is invited to themselves and the world to discover around and explore. To ask questions and think. This is learning at the NEMO way.
The NEMO Penny Smasher is at the second floor and is part of the exhibition. The question at this Penny Smasher is: "Can you flatten a coin?" You can throw in a 5 eurocent-coin and see what happens.
The text explains: "The iron cylinders are so close together that they can flatten a coin. The gears convert the force that you apply into a much greater force. This allows you to flatten a coin."
Opening hours: Every Tuesday till Sundays from 10 o'clock till 17.30h
Closed on Mondays (except the holidays), the first day of Christmas and Kingsday.
