Granted Grade I listing this parish church is dedicated to the St.Andrew the apostle, one of twelve such dedications in the area and given to churches built near water. It is of Norman origins with a west tower, nave, lower chancel, south porch, north aisle and vestry; all of coursed limestone rubble with red Roman brick quoins, especially noticeable in the fine tower, and diagonal buttresses. The roofs are ridged and gabled, pegtiled with Victorian red tiles. The tower is early C12th, has north lancets and three bell openings with timber mid-wall insets and stone sills, some of which may be original. It is of three stages and is topped with a 17th century brick parapet and pinnacles.
At the west end of the nave in front of the tower arch is the C15th octagonal stone font decorated on each face with foliage. The shaft is octagonal, plain and chamfered top and bottom. The timber cover is hexagonal with a central iron handle and wave decoration round the edge.
