The stunning and distinctive Eclipse windmill with its huge vane provided lots of drawing power to tap groundwater aquifers deep below ground.

An interpretive sign near this iconic windmill of the South Plains reads as follows:

"ECLIPSE WINDMILL 1898
The Eclipse was the windmill of choice on the South Plains of Texas. Its 14-foot wheel could draw water from great depths."
