[FR] Le Mémorial se dresse au centre d'une vaste pelouse, et il est bordé de chaque côté de massifs de lauriers-tins, reconnus pour leurs fleurs attrayantes, leurs petits fruits et leur feuillage.
Le Monument commémoratif est de conception classique. Les quatre colonnes qui supportent le toit de même que les abris adjacents, sont en pierre de Portland, et portent mille huit cent huit noms, dont deux cent soixante-dix sont ceux de Canadiens. Est aussi gravée l'inscription suivante
« SUR CE MONUMENT SONT INSCRITS POUR ÊTRE CONSERVÉS DANS LA MÉMOIRE RECONNAISSANTE DES HOMMES LES NOMS DES SOLDATS DU COMMONWEALTH BRITANNIQUE QUI LUTTANT POUR UNE COMMUNE CIVILISATION SONT MORTS HÉROÏQUEMENT DANS LA CAMPAGNE DE NORMANDIE SANS QUE LEURS RESTES MORTELS PUISSENT DANS L'IGNORANCE DU LIEU EXACT DE LEUR SÉPULTURE RECEVOIR LES HONNEURS QUI LEURS SONT DUS 6 JUIN - 29 AOÛT 1944 »
[EN] The Bayeux Memorial was erected in white stone facing the cemetery. The Latin epitaph along the frieze of the memorial is reference to William the Conqueror and the Invasion of England in 1066. The translation reads: “We, once conquered by William, have now set free the Conqueror’s native land.”
On this memorial are engraved the names of the 1,808 men of the Commonwealth who died in the Battle of Normandy and who have no known grave. The Bayeux Memorial in Normandy, France commemorates 270 Canadian servicemen and women.
