Located at the south corner of what's known as Masters' Grove is a citizen memorial comprised of concrete with a metal plaque that reads:
ALFRED R. MASTERS - DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS 1924-1962
STANFORD UNIVERSITY STUDENT BODY PRESIDENT, CLASS OF 1924, ATHLETIC DIRECTOR FOR 38 YEARS, DEVELOPED ONE OF THE FINEST COLLEGIATE AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS IN THE COUNTRY. AUTHORIZED GOLF COURSE AND SUNKEN DIAMOND CONSTRUCTION, AND STADIUM ENLARGEMENT TO SEAT 90,000. INTERNATIONAL TRACK AND FIELD; ASSISTANT MANAGER, LOS ANGELES OLYMPICS, 1932, AND BERLIN OLYMPICS, 1936; AND MANAGER, LONDON OLYMPICS, 1948. STAGED THE FIRST AMERICAN/SOVIET TRACK MEET, STANFORD STADIUM, 1962. "NO ONE DID MORE FOR STANFORD ATHLETICS THAN MASTERS" S.F. CHRONICLE, 1963.
