[EN] The Michaeliskirche in Leipzig is an evangelical church building devoted to Archangel Michael from the time of the turn of the 19th to the 20th century.

It was built by Leipzig architects Heinrich Rust and Alfred Müller as the main church of the northern suburb newly developed in the course of the leaping population increase in Leipzig and was consecrated on 12 June 1904. Today it is liturgically used by the Protestant-Lutheran church of the Michaelis-Frieden-Kirchgemeinde.

The church is located at the intersection of several sight axes on the Nordplatz. The orientation in the north-south direction, which fits into the orientation of the streets of Nordvorstadt, is unusual. The cruciform church nave is surrounded by chapels of chapels. The central, wide-seated tower in the south of the building rises 70 meters high, making it one of the highest church towers in the city. The facade is executed in sandstone and carries rich architectural jewelry. Although still part of historicism, the architecture does not follow a clear stylistic program but combines Renaissance, Neo-Gothic, Neo-Baroque and Jugendstil elements.
The Michaeliskirche has survived the destruction of the war unscathed and is distinguished by the original design of other church buildings of the epoch.
