Wilhelmus Mynderse was one of the earliest resident proprietor of Seneca Falls, New York. Mynderse owned a one-fifth interest in the Bayard Land Co. No other single individual had as much to do with the beginning of the settlement in Seneca Falls, its subsequent growth to a prosperous village and the location here of early industries as Wilhelmus Mynderse. Mynderse lived to see a flourishing village spring from a forest. He did much to encourage its growth. A village park was his gift to the village. Mynderse, also, was a generous patron of the Academy which beared his name and became part of the public school system. Mynderse contributed the site and furnished the greater part of the means for building the original building.
The original Mynderse Academy school building is now called Academy Square and it houses offices for several non-profit organizations.
