In Whitehall, within Riverside Park, is this long stone memorial of veterans who served in various wars.
Riverside Park is located between Main Street and the Champlain Canal, and is just south of a truss bridge over the canal.
The memorial is made of granite and is about five feet tall and about 100 ft long and maybe 8 inches thick. The monument has long lists of names on it, separated by war. The following wars are represented:
World War I
World War II
Korea
Vietnam
Persian Gulf
In the center is the main part of the memorial. At the top is the logo for the American Legion Post 83, then:
"Whitehall, New York
Birthplace of the U.S. Navy
[Logos and globe]
We will never forget our veterans who answered the world's call for freedom
Dedicated May 25, 1992"
On the back is another design.
At either end are planters with credits to the veterans and village committees.
