Wikipedia mentions this building and there are obvious signs that it was a former chapel, see bell tower and name.
In a PDF produced by Staveley Local History Society, they say
quote:

"The Primitive society led the way in 1866 with a Gothic style chapel, on top of which was a turret with one bell, an unusual feature. This building, between the River Gowan and Main Street, had 350 sittings."

After the amalgamation of Methodism in 1932, the two chapels struggled on, not joining congregations and this chapel was used as well as the other chapel. Until World War 2 when the congregation moved to Kentmere Road chapel after this chapel was sold to a local Kendal councillor and used as a Government Communal Food centre during WW2. After WW2 the purchaser converted it to a dwelling.
