DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1963 (VBM) THE STATION IS LOCATED ON THE EASTERLY ONE OF A GROUP OF HILLS, KNOWN LOCALLY AS POWHATAN HILLS, ABOUT 0.75 MILE SOUTHWEST OF THE TOWN OF POWHATAN POINT, ABOUT 1.5 MILES SOUTHWEST OF THE CONFLUENCE OF THE CAPTINA CREEK AND THE OHIO RIVER, AND ON THE PROPERTY OF THE NORTH AMERICAN COAL CORP. IT IS 26 FEET WEST OF A 10 INCH ELM TREE, 25 FEET NORTH OF AN 8 INCH BLACK CHERRY TREE, 20 FEET SOUTH OF A 6 INCH LOCUST TREE, 18 FEET NORTHEAST OF A 10 INCH ELM TREE, 15 FEET SOUTHWEST OF A 6 INCH LOCUST TREE, AND 3 FEET SOUTHEAST OF A WITNESS POST. THE MONUMENT PROJECTS 1 INCH AND THE DISK IS STAMPED POWHATAN 1963. TO REACH FROM THE INTERSECTION OF STATE HIGHWAYS 7 AND 148, JUST SOUTH OF THE BRIDGE OVER CAPTINA CREED, IN POWHATAN POINT, GO SOUTH ON STATE HIGHWAY 7 FOR 0.25 MILE TO A SIDE ROAD RIGHT. TURN RIGHT AND GO WEST-SOUTHWEST UPHILL ON A GRAVELED ROAD FOR 1.0 MILE TO A SIDE ROAD LEFT AND A BOARD GATE ON THE LEFT, AT THE TOP OF THE HILL. TURN LEFT PASSING THROUGH THE GATE AND GO SOUTH ON A CINDER ROAD FOR 0.1 MILE TO A SMALL BLOCK BUILDING ON THE RIGHT. TURN RIGHT, JUST AFTER PASSING THE BLOCK BUILDING AND GO WEST FOR ABOUT 100 FEET TO THE TOP OF THE RIDGE. TURN RIGHT AND GO NORTH ON A TRACK ROAD FOR 0.05 MILE TO THE TOP OF THE HILL AND THE STATION. TO REACH THE AZIMUTH MARK FROM THE INTERSECTION OF STATE HIGHWAYS 7 AND 148 IN POWHATAN POINT, GO NORTH AND EAST ON STATE HIGHWAY 7 FOR 0.45 MILE TO THE INTERSECTION WITH BROWN ROAD AND THE AZIMUTH MARK ON THE LEFT. REFERENCE MARK 1 IS 29 FEET NORTH OF A 14 INCH LOCUST TREE, 17 FEET WEST OF AN 8 INCH BLACK CHERRY TREE, 11 FEET WEST OF THE CENTERLINE OF THE TRACK ROAD, AND 10 FEET SOUTHEAST OF AN 8 INCH LOCUST TREE. THE MONUMENT PROJECTS 3 INCHES AND THE DISK IS STAMPED POWHATAN NO 1 1963. REFERENCE MARK 2 IS 27 FEET WEST OF AN 8 INCH LOCUST TREE, 13 FEET NORTHEAST OF A 10 INCH LOCUST TREE, AND 6 FEET SOUTHEAST OF AN 8 INCH LOCUST TREE. THE MONUMENT PROJECTS 3 INCHES AND THE DISK IS STAMPED POWHATAN NO 2 1963. THE AZIMUTH MARK IS 41 FEET NORTH OF THE CENTERLINE OF STATE HIGHWAY 7, 18 FEET EAST OF THE CENTERLINE OF A DRIVEWAY, 8 FEET WEST OF THE CENTERLINE OF BROWN ROAD, 2 FEET SOUTH OF A WITNESS POST, AND 1 FOOT SOUTHEAST OF A TELEPHONE POLE. THE MONUMENT PROJECTS 1 INCH AND THE DISK IS STAMPED POWHATAN 1963.
