The Bamberg Rose Garden was designed in the style of an antique Roman garden. Part of the design are statues of Roman deities.

The Statue of Mercury was sculpted by Royal sculptor Ferdinand Dietz in 1761.

In Roman Mythology, Mercury is a son of Jupiter and one of the main Gods. He is the guide of souls to the underworld and the patron god commerce, eloquence, poetry), communication, Travel, trade, boundaries, luck, trickery and thieves.
