Botany department of Regional Muzeum in Sokolov is responsible for extensive, continually growing botanical herbarium collections not only from the museum, but also from many areas of the former Czechoslovakia and several European countries. He currently has a herbarium international abbreviation "SOKO" over 16,000 items.

Prírodovedné oddelení se zabývá dvema základními obory, které vyplývají z celkové specializace muzea, tj. geologickým a botanickým disciplínám. Botanický i geologický výzkum je soustreden prevážne na oblast Krušných hor, Slavkovského lesa, Doupovských hor a Sokolovské pánve. Tato základní cinnost je doplnena o lichenologický pruzkum a rozsáhlou fotodokumentaci. Spolupracuje s odbornou verejností a mnoha vedeckými institucemi.
Dále se oddelení se stará o obsáhlý, neustále se zvetšující botanický herbár se sbírkami nejen z regionu muzea, ale i z mnoha oblastí bývalého Ceskoslovenska a nekolika evropských státu. V soucasné dobe cítá herbár s mezinárodní zkratkou "SOKO" pres 16 tisíc položek.
