In 1880 a fire destroyed the original Moffat Building and many other buildings surrounding it. It was rebuilt that year and stood on this location until it collapsed in 1920. History does not tell how it collapsed just that it did. In 1927 the current building was built as retail space though no record of tenants exist. The building is considered one of the best examples of Commercial Vernacular style in the entire historic district.
