Sumperk town is the largest centre of the north of Moravia and owing to its location it is called "The Gate to Jeseníky mountains."
The District Museum of Natural History in Šumperk was founded as a private in 1896 and after the establishment of the museum association after year 19l0 was seen as a German town museum. In 1945, the German museum handed over to the Czech government and early 50s have been allocated to new premises in Pavlínine yard.
