The hand prints are organised by NETIA Off Camera, an annual independent film maker festival held in Krakow.

This plaque was laid in 2015 to commemorate Roman Polanski.

"Roman Polanski has been awarded the “Against the Current” Award in recognition of his exceptional contributions to supporting independent film industry and culture. The Award-Academy winning director of the famous Rosemary’s Baby has collected his award in person during the Opening Gala of the 8th edition of the PKO OFF CAMERA FESTIVAL. He has just departed from Krakow for a long journey against the trends.

The creator of Knife in the Water, Cul-de-sac, Rosemary’s Baby, Chinatown, Tess and Carnage eludes all labels. Roman Polanski has never favored trends nor adjusted to the environment. ”To the American cinema he brought his European doubts and unfulfillments. To the European cinema – American respect towards the audience, discipline and professionalism. He is one of few Old Continent creators who manage to combine artistry with commerce.”– emphasized the Festival organizers. The award was presented to the director by Andrzej Seweryn.

Roman Polanski will remain in Krakow forever, as his star will be added to Krakow Star Alley. Tomorrow at the 8th PKO OFF CAMERA the audience will watch a screening of his digitally reconstructed Knife in the Water – it is one of the few Polish films from the 1960s which met with success abroad, and it still feels up to date." link
