In 1955, the trees in the park were planted in memory of the dentist and "Favorite Son" of the city, Antonio Gómez Felipe, who "... never had an enemy, and no one has been to him for a major or minor treatment without remembering him with admiration and affection." After a period of dilapidation the park was renovated and reopened in 2010. The renovation work was carried out by unemployed youth gaining working experience in this way.
The park has an area of 6.000 m2 and is located in the "empty" space between the main road and a ravine. Since this park is public property, the municipality has determined that the citizens are responsible for the preservation, maintenance and supervision in the park.
The park was designed by Luis Morera. The park is split up in two parts. In the northeastern part he used chunks of lava, decorative mosaics and endemic plants to create optical unity. This part contains winding paths, a small waterfall, caves and hidden corners. The southwestern part with several mature endemic trees has a design with straight walkways in between square grass patches and various play areas. The two parts are separated by a small alleyway where the two different fences show nicely.
