Papst Johannes XXIII
Aus einer armen Familie in der Nähe von Bergamo stammend wird Angelo Guiseppe Roncalli 1904 zum Priester geweiht, 1925 zum Bischof.
Zwanzig Jahre wirkt er im diplomatischen Dienst des Heiligen Stuhls in Sofia und Istanbul, von 1945 bis 1953 als Apostolischer Nuntius in Paris.
Nach ihm ist dieser Platz an der Südseite des Domes benannt.

Coming from a poor family near Bergamo, Angelo Guiseppe Roncalli was ordained a priest in 1904, a bishop in 1925.
For twenty years he worked in the diplomatic service of the Holy See in Sofia and Istanbul, from 1945 to 1953 as an apostolic nuncio in Paris.
According to him this place is named on the south side of the cathedral.
