As part of the United States Bicentennial Celebration a group of Minnesota businessmen had the idea of casting a life sized replica of the Liberty Bell. Once cast the replica was placed on a trailer and brought from state to state teaching children about freedom. Even though the inscription says the bell only travelled to 31 states, the Highground web site says it travelled to 36 and reached millions of school children. When the tour director passed away, the Liberty Bell Education Foundation stopped touring the bell. They wanted to give the bell a permanent home and decided on the Highground Veterans Memorial Park. Master Timberframer Lyle Lindholm designed and built the current timberframe building with the help of volunteers. Today the bell is used during heritage brick laying ceremonies among others. The original Liberty Bell is still in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and is an iconic symbol of freedom in the United States.
