RECOVERY NOTE BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1970 (LFS) THE STATION AND ALL MARKS WERE RECOVERED IN APPARENT GOOD CONDITION. THE 1963 AZIMUTH MARK WAS ESTABLISHED WITHOUT PERMISSION OF THE PROPERTY OWNER, WHO DOES NOT OBJECT TO THE MARK, BUT SAYS IF HE SHOULD DECIDE TO EXTEND CULTIVATION IN THE AREA, THE MARK WOULD BE DESTROYED. THEREFORE, A NEW AZIMUTH MARK NO. 2 WAS ESTABLISHED AND THE ORIGINAL MARK WAS NOT DISTURBED. THE STATION WAS OCCUPIED AND ALL HORIZONTAL ANGLES OBSERVED. IN CHECKING THE ANGLE BETWEEN THE 1963 AZIMUTH MARK AND THE REFERENCE MARKS A CHECK WITHIN THE REQUIRED LIMITS WAS OBTAINED. IN CHECKING THE HORIZONTAL MEASURED DISTANCE BETWEEN THE STATION AND REFERENCE MARK NO. 1 A DISCREPANCY OF - 0.03 OF A FOOT WAS NOTED, WHILE THE DISTANCE TO REFERENCE MARK NO. 2 CHECKED THE 1963 VALUE FLAT. FOLLOWING IS A NEW AND COMPLETE DESCRIPTION. THE STATION IS LOCATED IN OPEN PASTURE LAND OWNED BY MR. J. E. LUTES, ABOUT 8-1/2 MILES NORTHWEST OF BEALLSVILLE, 7 MILES SOUTHWEST OF BETHESDA, AND 4 MILES SOUTH OF BARNESVILLE. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE POST OFFICE IN BARNESVILLE, GO WEST ON CHESTNUT STREET FOR 0.05 OF A MILE TO STATE ROUTE 800. HERE TURN LEFT ON STATE ROUTE 800 AND GO SOUTH FOR 0.1 OF A MILE TO THE JUNCTION OF STATE ROUTE 147. CONTINUE SOUTHERLY ON STATE ROUTES 800 AND 147 FOR 0.45 OF A MILE TO WHERE STATE ROUTE 147 TURNS RIGHT. HERE CONTINUE SOUTH-SOUTHEASTERLY ON STATE ROUTE 800 FOR 2.25 MILES TO THE JUNCTION WITH STATE ROUTE 148 ON THE LEFT. CONTINUE SOUTHEASTERLY AND SOUTH ON WINDING STATE ROUTE 800 FOR 2.1 MILES TO MR. LUTES FARM HOME ON THE LEFT AND A BOARD GATE IN A FENCE JOG ON THE LEFT. HERE LEAVE THE HIGHWAY, PASSING THROUGH THE BOARD GATE AND CONTINUE SOUTHERLY ACROSS OPEN PASTURE FOR 0.1 OF A MILE TO THE TOP OF THE HILL AND THE STATION AS DESCRIBED. THE STATION IS 125 FEET EAST OF THE APPROXIMATE CENTER OF STATE ROUTE 800, 116 FEET EAST-NORTHEAST OF A GUYED TELEPHONE POLE, 111 FEET EAST-NORTHEAST OF A SOUTHWEST FENCE CORNER POST, 108 FEET EAST OF A NORTH-SOUTH FENCE, 74 FEET NORTH-NORTHWEST OF A GUYED POWERLINE POLE, 50 FEET NORTH OF AN EAST-WEST FENCE, AND 0.7 OF A FOOT WEST OF A METAL WITNESS POST AND SIGN. IT IS A STANDARD DISK SET IN THE TOP OF A 12- INCH, ROUND, FLUSH, CONCRETE MONUMENT AND THE DISK IS STAMPED LUTES 1963. REFERENCE MARK NO. 1 IS 153 FEET EAST OF A SOUTHWEST FENCE CORNER POST, 3 FEET WEST-SOUTHWEST OF A GUYED POWERLINE POLE, 1 FOOT NORTH OF AN EAST-WEST FENCE, AND ABOUT 1 FOOT BELOW THE STATION ELEVATION. IT IS A STANDARD DISK SET IN THE TOP OF A 12-INCH, ROUND, FLUSH, CONCRETE MONUMENT AND THE DISK IS STAMPED LUTES NO 1 1963. REFERENCE MARK NO. 2 IS 106 FEET WEST OF A GUYED POWERLINE POLE, 79 FEET EAST OF THE APPROXIMATE CENTER OF STATE ROUTE 800, 56 FEET EAST OF A GUYED TELEPHONE POLE, 50 FEET EAST OF A SOUTHWEST FENCE CORNER POST, 1.8 FEET EAST-NORTHEAST OF A METAL WITNESS POST AND SIGN, 1.0 FOOT NORTH OF AN EAST-WEST FENCE, AND ABOUT 3.0 FEET BELOW THE STATION ELEVATION. IT IS A STANDARD DISK SET IN THE TOP OF A 12-INCH, ROUND, FLUSH, CONCRETE MONUMENT AND THE DISK IS STAMPED LUTES NO 2 1963. THE HORIZONTAL MEASURED DISTANCE BETWEEN REFERENCE MARK NO. 1 AND REFERENCE MARK NO. 2 IS 103.02 FEET - (31.400) METERS. THE 1963 AZIMUTH MARK IS 127 FEET WEST-SOUTHWEST OF THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF A LARGE BARN, 83 FEET WEST OF UTILITY POLE NO. 17-1, 11 FEET NORTH OF THE APPROXIMATE CENTER OF A GRADED ROAD, 1.4 FEET NORTHEAST OF A METAL WITNESS POST AND SIGN, AND ABOUT 4 FEET ABOVE THE LEVEL OF THE GRADED ROAD. IT IS A STANDARD DISK SET IN THE TOP OF A 12-INCH, ROUND, FLUSH, CONCRETE MONUMENT AND THE DISK IS STAMPED LUTES 1963. THE 1970 NO. 2 AZIMUTH MARK IS 8 FEET WEST OF THE APPROXIMATE CENTER OF AN OLD TOWNSHIP ROAD, 7 FEET SOUTH OF A 16-INCH BITTERNUT HICKORY TREE, 5.5 FEET NORTH-NORTHWEST OF A 24-INCH, TWIN-TRUNKED TULIP POPLAR TREE, AND 0.8 OF A FOOT WEST OF A METAL WITNESS POST AND SIGN SET IN AN OLD NORTH-SOUTH FENCE LINE. IT IS A STANDARD DISK SET IN THE TOP OF AN 11-INCH, ROUND, CONCRETE MONUMENT THAT PROJECTS 5 INCHES AND THE DISK IS STAMPED LUTES 1963 NO 2 1970. TO REACH THE 1963 AZIMUTH MARK FROM THE BOARD GATE LEADING INTO THE PASTURE, CONTINUE SOUTHEASTERLY ON WINDING STATE ROUTE 800 FOR 1.0 MILE TO A GRAVELED ROAD SHARP LEFT, JUST AFTER PASSING A WHITE HOUSE. HERE TURN SHARP LEFT ON THIS GRAVELED ROAD AND GO NORTHEASTERLY, NORTH, EAST, AND NORTHEASTERLY FOR 0.45 OF A MILE TO THE MARK ON THE LEFT AS DESCRIBED. THIS MARK IS ON THE PROPERTY OF MR. HOMER WARRICK. TO REACH THE 1970 NO. 2 AZIMUTH MARK FROM THE BOAD GATE LEADING INTO THE STATION PASTURE, GO NORTHERLY ON STATE ROUTE 800 FOR 0.35 OF A MILE TO A GRAVELED T ROAD RIGHT AND THE HOWARD AIRFIELD ON THE LEFT. HERE TURN RIGHT ON THIS GRAVELED ROAD AND GO EASTERLY FOR 0.8 OF A MILE TO A GRADED TOWNSHIP ROAD RIGHT. HERE TURN RIGHT ON THIS GRADED ROAD AND GO SOUTHERLY FOR 0.15 OF A MILE TO A ROAD ON THE LEFT LEADING INTO A CYCLE CLUB. CONTINUE SOUTHERLY ON GRADED AND VERY ROUGH ROAD FOR 0.15 OF A MILE TO THE SUMMIT OF A HILL AT END OF ROAD AND THE MARK AS DESCRIBED.

From the west junction of State Highways 147 and 800 in the south section of Barnesville, go 4.0 miles south on Highway 800 to a side road left. Turn left onto Flat Rock Road and go east for 0.8 mile to a side road right. Turn right and go south on Homer Warrick Road for 0.15 mile to a driveway left leading to address 57601 and the end of truck travel. Continue south on Homer Warrick Road, a track road, for 0.17 mile to the mark on the right in a fence line. The mark is 30 feet southwest of the centerline of Homer Warrick Road, 23.7 feet west of a 6.3-foot orange and white marker for an underground telephone cable, 7 feet south of a 24-inch bitternut hickory tree, and is set in the top of a concrete post projecting 2 inches above the surface of the ground.
