In 1875 a building was built on this property which housed the Simpson Hardware Store after fire destroyed the previous building Mr. Simpson had at this property earlier in 1875. In 1879 the second Simpson Building, which housed the hardware store and C. Kuhn Bakery, also was consumed by a fire and totally destroyed. Soon after Hagerman O. Palmer purchased the land and built the Palmer building in the property in 1880. The original tenant of the new building was the Howell Drug Store and it remained there until another fire hit the property. In 1889 fire damaged the building and it had to be repaired extensively. This fire forced the drug store to relocate and the building remained vacant for several years (one can speculate that with so many fire, the people were a bit superstitious to move in). Finally in the late 1890's through 1930 an unnamed bakery moved into the building with no incident. Today the building is home to a realtor agency that's been in business since 1925.
