Das Museum befindet sich im Untergeschoss des Belforter Tors und wurde 1957 durch den Kommandeur des 42. R.I. (Infanterie Regiments) als Platzkommandant, eingeweiht. Zahlreiche Ausstellungstücke belegen die Geschichte der Stadt, von ihrer Entstehung bis zum heutigen Tag.
Ein Reliefplan der Stadt, mit Tonkommentar und Lichtanimation, erklärt die Architektur und den Bau der Festung. Der Reliefplan ist eine genaue Nachbildung des im " Musée des Invalides " in Paris hinterlegten Originalplans.
Im Museum sind sowohl Festungspläne als auch Dokumente über die Bautechniken ausgestellt : Pläne der Stadt, der vier Tore, des Zeughauses, der Kasernen und der Kirche. Ausserdem sind zu sehen : eine Nachbildung der Büste Vauban's durch Coysevox, diverse Gemälde mit dem Baumeister und der Stadtgouverneure, Dokumente, Bilder zur Belagerung von 1870 und dem Zweiten Weltkrieg.

"Set up in 1957, the Vauban Museum occupies the ground floor of the Belfort Gate. Going through the two rooms, the visitor will learn about the fortress of Neuf-Brisach, the last fortification built by Vauban before he died. The displays will tell him something about the history of the town, from the date of its construction in 1699 to the present day times.
A raised-relief plan shows the fortress such as it was conceived by Vauban; it is a faithful copy of the model on display in the Relief Model Museum in Paris.
Among other interesting documents, the visitor will ind the plans of the fortification and the techniques of construction; the layout of the various buildings; a bust statue of Vauban made by Coysevox and documentation about the 1870 siege and WWII."
