Sir James Mitchell GCMG was the 13th Premier of Western Australia, serving on two occasions (May 1919 to April 1924 and April 1930 to April 1933) and the Lieutenant-Governor of Western Australia from April 1933 until October 1948. From October 1948 until June 1951 he was the 22nd Governor of Western Australia. He was born in Dardanup on 27th of April 1866 and on 26th of July 1951

The plaque on the monument reads :-
