In the gable above the front door of the city hall there is the coat of arms of "Herrlichkeit Erpel".
All symbols of the coat of arms - the crowns of Holy Three kings whose relics rested in the church of Erpel in 1164 on their transportation to Cologne, the Peter's keys as well as the black cross - point to the Cologne chapter which owned in 1130-1803 "Herrschaft Erpel" as a fief of the Cologne archbishop.
