It was opened in March 1918 to honour those who served in the Great War 1914 - 1919. It now also honours those who served in the Second World War, Korea & Vietnam. The Memorial is a band rotunda faced with name plates and commemorative plaques. It cost £244 to construct and was funded through the efforts of the Gulgong Progress Association. The memorial is the second oldest in Australia. It was built in 1916, two years before World War One ended and was officially unveiled in 1918.
