The large mural artwork of the Kereru is painted on the black concrete block wall beside the Tile Warehouse and the Quality Print shop adjoining it in Runanga Street, Taupo (just off Spa Road).

It is very realistic, the feathers are accurately painted in the brilliant stunning colours that are so well recognised as one of New Zealand's favourite native birds. The words written on either side of the bird are in Maori, Kia tangi ai....te tini parirau. This translates as - To hear the sound of many wings!

If you are in the forest and hear the loud swooshing of beating wings you may look up and catch a glimpse of one of these huge birds flying from tree to tree in search of berries. They are a wonderful sight.

The painting is signed in the bottom corner, Charles and Janine Williams, 2015.

An excerpt from their Facebook page:
"What a privilege to paint this Kereru for Shawn Vennell during Graffiato & to support his efforts alongside Greening Taupo with the objective of improving the Taupo environment for people and native wildlife.
One of the signs of progress is to see the Kereru flourishing again in the forests & this mural was about being proud of their efforts so far by painting our beautiful native wood pigeon standing proud waiting for his whanau to come home & join him! (4m x 4m) 'Kia tangi ai te tini parirau' - To hear the sound of many wings! "
