Rebuilt by Sir Christoper Wren after the church formerly on this site burned in the 1666 Great Fire, St Mary-le-Bow church was almost totally destroyed during the Blitz bombing campaign of World War II.

The church was rebuilt and reconsecrated in 1964 using Wren's plans, even down to the chimeras and steeple.
