About the Meridian Fire Department

The City of Meridian formed the Meridian Fire Department in the early 1900’s. At that time the fire department consisted of volunteers. In the 1950’s the Rural Commission was formed. The City of Meridian and the Rural District decided to combine forces and house their equipment in one station in the center of the district. In 1977 the first fulltime employee was hired.
The Meridian Fire Department has experienced many changes since its founding. We currently have 4 Fire Stations. Fire Station 1 is located at 540 E. Franklin, Fire Station 2 is located at 2401 N. Ten Mile and Fire Station 3 is located at 3545 N. Locust Grove and Fire Station 4 is located at 2515 S. Eagle Road.
The Meridian Fire Department employs 49 staff members which include 42 fulltime firefighters and 7 administrative staff members. We also have a volunteer staff of 6 part-time on-call firefighters who provide additional support in case of an emergency.
The Meridian Fire Department responds to emergency calls in a 54 square mile jurisdiction that stretches from the south channel of the Boise River to the north, Lake Hazel to the south, Cloverdale Road to the east and McDermott Road to the west. We serve a population of approximately 77,000 people.
In 2005 our firefighters responded to 3,095 calls for service.
