The following obituary (visit link) was published in the Florida Times-Union on October 5, 2004:
"ROTHENBERG Funeral services will be held on Wednesday October 6, 2004, 1 p.m. at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 11801 San Jose Blvd. for Elie Rothenberg, who passed away on October 3, 2004 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida as a result of an accident in Grenada. Interment will follow in the Beth Shalom section of Evergreen Cemetery on Main Street. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Jewish Family & Community Services (food bank) 904-448-1933. Elie is survived by his loving son Aaron Rothenberg, his wife Marla Saphira-Rothenberg, his devoted and supportive parents, Martha and Joseph Rothenberg, along with his sister Elena Rothenberg, a brother David Rothenberg and sister-in law Pam, and a niece Danielle. He was predeceased by his brother, Paul Rothenberg, husband of Dottie and nieces Shala and Mollie Rothenberg. Elie had many aunts, uncles, cousins and good friends that will miss him as well. Elie was the owner of Special ty Contracting. He was a very special person, always giving. Elie found the time to be a devoted member of an organization called CHORES. As a member of this organization, he was part of a medical team that went to Grenada several times a year to assist with the children's hospital and its needs, which was something that was very close to his heart. Elie had a passion for playing djembe drums and as such was a member of a local drumming group and community. A favorite quote of Elie's was, “ Never underestimate the ability of a small group of committed individuals to change the world. Indeed, they are the only ones who ever have." Margaret Meade.
