Die Burg Kriebstein verkörpert den Typ einer Spornburg, welche auf einem Bergsporn (einer nach mindestens zwei Seiten steil abfallenden Geländeformation) liegt. Darüber hinaus kann sie als Kombination einer Turmburg und Ringburg typisiert werden. Von weiten zu sehen und sehr dominant ist der 45m hohe monumentale Wohnturm.
Erstmals erwähnt wurde die Burg Kriebstein im Jahr 1384 durch die Herren von Beerwalde. Im Laufe der Jahrhunderte hatte die Burg verschiedene Besitzer und wurde teilweise umgebaut und erweitert. Seit 1930 ist die Burg für die Öffentlichkeit geöffnet und seit 1993 im Besitz des Freistaates Sachsen.
Während des 2. Wk. wurden hier verschiedene Kunstgüter ausgelagert. Die Burg diente zudem als Drehort für verschiedene Filme (wie Schneewitchen 2009, Grand Budapest Hotel 2014 oder der Eisenhans 1988) und ist heute ein Museum.

The Castle Kriebstein is a "Spornburg", which is located on a mountain spur (one by at least two sides of steep terrain formation). Moreover, they can be classified as a combination of a tower castle and ring castle. From wide to see and very dominant is the 45m high monumental residential tower.
Castle Kriebstein was first mentioned in 1384 by the lords of Beerwalde. Over the centuries the castle had different owners and was partially rebuilt and expanded. Since 1930, the castle is open to the public and since 1993 owned by the state of Saxony.
During the 2nd WW. various art goods were outsourced here. The castle also served as a filming location for several films (like Snow White 2009, Grand Budapest Hotel 2014 or the Eisenhans 1988) and is now a museum.
