Der Bahnhof befindet sich im südlich der Elbe gelegenen Stadtteil Dessau, westlich der dortigen Innenstadt. Es handelt sich um einen in Nord-Süd-Richtung angelegten Durchgangsbahnhof. Das denkmalgeschützte Empfangsgebäude liegt östlich der Gleisanlagen, von diesem erschließt ein Fußgängertunnel mit Aufzügen die Bahnsteige und stellt eine Verbindung zum westlichen Ausgang her.
Auf dem östlich gelegenen Vorplatz befinden sich eine Straßenbahn- und Bushaltestelle sowie ein Informations- und Verkaufspavillon der Dessauer Verkehrsgesellschaft, außerdem Fahrradabstellplätze. Der westliche Zugang inkl. Vorplatz wurde im Jahr 2010 neu gestaltet und ein P&R-Parkplatz sowie weitere überdachte Fahrradabstellplätze eingerichtet.

The station is located in the south of the Elbe city district Dessau, west of the local downtown. There is a scale in north-south direction through station. The listed station building lies east of the railway tracks, from this opens up a pedestrian tunnel with lifts the platform and will connect to the west side.
On the eastern forecourt there is a tram and bus stop as well as an information and sales pavilion Dessauer transport company, also bicycle storage. The western access incl. Forecourt was redesigned in 2010 and set up a P & R parking lot and another covered bicycle parking.
