The land that Broderick Park is on was the last stop on the Underground Railroad before slaves crossed the Niagara River into Canada. Work is underway to construct a museum to commemorate this.

There is a hot dog stand in the park, but it appears to be abandoned as it hasn't opened in some time. A picnic pavilion is available for rent and a few picnic tables are scattered throughout the park. Several benches are located along the river.

At the southernmost tip of the island/park is Bird Island Pier. This separates the Black Rock Canal from the Niagara River. It is an enjoyable two mile walk out to the end with some great views of Lake Erie and downtown Buffalo.
