This cemetery was started in 1946 as St. Ignatius Cemetery.
The "OLD" cemetery, about a ¼ mile west, was actually the village cemetery created about 1818, and some where along the way the church took over care and control.
Records were so poor, and so many stone missing, the church lost track of which sites were open and which were not. To prevent the "mistaken" disturbance of an existing grave site they closed the cemetery and started the new one adjacent to the school on property already owned by the church.
When viewing internment's in the old cemetery you will notice a few were buried after it was "closed". These were site already owned by a family or individual, but no sales were recorded after 1946; although, as I said, a few funerals did occur.
